Waterton and Glacier Parks

These are additional photos from our trip to Waterton and Glacier Parks in September.  We love the National Parks.  These two are exceptionally beautiful.

wpid375-glacier-waterton-001-40.jpgThe first day we traveled on Waterton Lake by boat to Goat Haunt.  Crossing the border from Canada to US.  We were able to hike although limited somewhat by rain.  A beautiful lake.

wpid403-untitled-14.jpgThe next morning was clear but cold.  We joined another couple for a horseback adventure.  We rode three hours with our guide, Cole.  Riding abreast across the prairie close to the mountains we crossed streams, negotiated steep ups and downs, and managed to stay in the saddle.

wpid405-untitled-20.jpgWe had great horses, good spirit and good sense.  This was break time, Maggie was concerned that if she dismounted here she would have difficulty getting back on.  Needless to say, 3 hours in the saddle led to some leg cramps and awkward walking at the end.

Hiking was the main activity.  There are numerous trails and fortunately many are not steep,  often following streams from lake to lake through valleys.  Just when you thought you saw the most beautiful scenery, turning the corner you would come upon something even more beautiful.

The Prince of Wales Hotel is an historic landmark for Waterton Park.  We had dinner here one evening and enjoyed the view out over the lake.

We then traveled to Glacier Park in Montana and stayed at Many Glacier Hotel, another historic building.  Here too we enjoyed many days of wonderful hiking and wildlife viewing with close ups of Bull Moose and female Moose and Grizzly Bear at a distance.  Mountain Goats were common.
