Woods Gap Road

I spent a few days with my good friend Dennis at Woods Gap recently. He was a great host, we rambled through the countryside on foot and bicycle, enjoying the scenery and meeting several delightful friends.  We were treated to good weather despite intermittent rainstorms and the special gift of sunset followed quickly by a full moon rise which we took in from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I photographed while dennis sketched.rksunset_edited-1Just after sunset

The Moon rose through the clouds, very beautiful with pink hue, looming large. Strands of clouds moved across making interesting patterns, the sky was very blue from the sunset.

Woods Gap is a photographers paradise with beautiful natural scenes;  lines, forms, patterns; old weathered buildings, streams, falls, animals.  It is a place of creativity and inspires creativity. I continued to photograph with the late evening light and the pre-dawn early light with the  moon low in the sky setting just before sunrise.

Mist/fog rose through the trees as the sun slowly came up over the ridge.

These horses came running down the hill as I was photographing something else, stayed still (almost) for me to capture a few quick images.
